Man killed in ultralight plane crash into southern Georgian Bay

GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP, Ont. — Provincial police say a man is dead after his ultralight plane crashed into Georgian Bay on Saturday.

Police say they got the call at 12:40 p.m. that the small aircraft had gone down in the area of Pinery Point in Georgian Bay Township.

They say an OPP Marine Unit arrived on scene a short time later and officers pulled the lone pilot from the water.

But despite the efforts of emergency services police say the pilot, identified only as a 47-year-old man from Oro-Medonte Township, died.

Police say the small ultralight aircraft sank at the crash site.

They also note that Transport Canada has been contacted to assist in the ongoing investigation.
