32-year-old had sex with teenager, 13

A Greater Sudbury man who had a prolonged sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl will find out whether or not heÂ?s going to jail in late October.

Normand Lachance, 32, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of sexual interference and one count of inviting the young girl to touch him in a sexual manner.

Court heard Lachance was living in the basement of the same residence of the young girl and they had between eight and 10 sexual encounters between September of 2002 and the end of December in 2003.

None of the encounters involved sexual intercourse, said assistant Crown attorney Philip Zylberberg.

Â?At her age, there is no such thing as consent,Â? said Zylberberg.

When Greater Sudbury Police were contacted, Lachance wrote a letter of apology to the young girl, which helps prove there was an inappropriate sexual relationship between them, said Zylberberg.

Defence counsel Michael Barnett asked that a pre-sentence report be prepared before a sentence is imposed.

Justice Randall Lalande agreed and ordered the pre-sentence report and a sentencing date of Oct. 21 was set.

Lachance must continue to stay out of trouble and abide by the conditions of his bail order until heÂ?s sentenced.
