Accident claims the life of city man

Police released the name of the man killed Tuesday in an accident at the Highway 17 by-pass, which shut down the busy road down for about 10 hours.

At around 4:40 pm, Marcel Garceau, 61, of Sudbury, was driving a westbound van that crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound tractor-trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the impact with GarceauÂ?s van, the tractor-trailer, driven by Ronald Prevost, 37, of Val Caron, jackknifed across the road, striking a westbound sewage truck, driven by Dale Taylor, 23, of Sudbury.

Prevost and Taylor were treated and released from a local hospital.

Ontario Provincial Police continue to investigate the accident and a post mortem, to determine the cause of death, was conducted on Garceau yesterday.
