Alleged drunk driver crashes vehicle in Chelmsford, flees into bush with a rifle

A 23-year-old man faces charges following a single vehicle crash on Errington Avenue in Chelmsford around 2:23 a.m. on Sept. 13.

Before officers arrived, the driver and passenger fled the scene on foot into the bush. The driver also grabbed a rifle from the trunk of his vehicle.

Officers contained the area. The man and his passenger, a woman, exited the bush a short distance from the crash scene and was arrested without incident. He was found to be impaired.

With the help of the canine unit, officers were able to find the rifle, which the driver had left in the bush.

He is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, failing to remain and unlawful possession of a firearm.
