A 24-year-old female with no fixed address has been arrested and charged following an incident that occurred on Manitoulin Island Thursday, involving a naked woman being assaulted with a knife.

On Aug. 22 around 3:44 p.m., members of the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to complaints of two women screaming and yelling from an apartment on Nixon Street in the town of Mindemoya.

One of the women was seen running down the street naked saying that her throat had been cut, according to the press release.

Police arrived on-scene and spoke to the woman outside, who said that she got into an altercation with another female and was then stabbed in the neck and chin with a knife.

The suspect was found a short time afterwards, arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm - Spousal (two counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC,

  • Fail to Comply with conditions of Undertaking given by Officer in Charge, contrary to section 145(5.1) of the CC,
  • Mischief Under $5000 (two counts), contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Little Current on Aug. 23.

Police would like to remind victims of domestic assaults that they are not alone, and that

"If you have been assaulted by an intimate partner or know someone that has, there are local resources here to help," said a press release.
