Car chase suspect arrested

On Sunday, June 22, at 9:10 p.m., Sudbury OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver, eastbound on Highway 17, just west of Wahnapitae. The vehicle was last seen travelling westbound on Highway 537.

On Sunday, June 22, at  9:10 p.m., Sudbury OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver, eastbound on Highway 17, just west of Wahnapitae. The vehicle was last seen travelling westbound on Highway 537.

A description of the vehicle and occupants was provided to police and it was revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Sudbury the previous day.

Shortly after, officers caught up to the vehicle, which was now travelling eastbound on Highway 537 The driver of the vehicle pulled over and let out one passenger, who fled on foot.

The vehicle then resumed driving eastbound on Highway 537. Three OPP cruisers were attempting to stop the fleeing suspects, who then turned onto Highway 17 heading westbound as they continued to evade police.

Near the Coniston Hydro Road on Highway 17, the three OPP cruisers boxed in the suspect vehicle to stop it. The driver then rammed all three cruisers and charged his vehicle towards an officer as he proceeded westbound into Sudbury.

The pursuit was discontinued on Bancroft Drive by OPP and Greater Sudbury Police, due to public safety. Officers were not injured but two OPP cruisers received extensive damage.

A short period of time after the chase, the vehicle was located on Camelot Street in Sudbury. A search of the area was conducted and officers located and apprehended one male and two females. The male was identified by the officers as the alleged driver.

Edward Beaudry, 23, of Sudbury is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police officer, three counts of mischief endangering life and four counts of driving while disqualified. He was held in custody for a bail hearing on June 25.
