Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident that occurred just after 5 am Sunday.

A car being driven by a 20-year-old woman struck a taxi cab from behind at the intersection of Lasalle Boulevard and Attlee Street, say Greater Sudbury Police.

?The impact of the collision caused the fuel tank on the taxi to rupture, engulfing both vehicles in flames,? said police in a news release. ?The occupants of both vehicles, including a fare in the taxi, managed to escape without serious injury.

?Both vehicles were demolished.?

Police say charges are pending against the female driver. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them at 675-9171.

In another weekend incident, police arrested a man they believed to be a drunk driver around 9 pm Friday after a pickup truck slammed into a city bus in Val Caron.

The bus had come to a stop on Municipal Road 80 at Romeo Street when the pickup truck slammed into the rear of the bus.

Four teenagers who had just stepped off the bus had to scatter as they tried to avoid broken glass and other debris caused by the incident.

Police say the driver of the pickup had tried to restart his vehicle, but officers arrivedo on the scene and placed him under arrest.

Police say two passengers on the bus had to be fitted with neck braces and were carried away on stretchers and taken to hospital.

Greater Sudbury Transit brought another bus to the scene to transport customers to their destination.
