Two Sudbury police officers have been recommended for commendations by Chief Ian Davidson for their efforts in
the aftermath of a fatal boating mishap on Ramsey Lake June 21.

Staff Insp. Brian Jarrett, who lives near the scene of the accident, was off duty when he witnessed the collision between a large pleasure craft and smaller fishing boat. He immediately jumped into his own boat and headed to the scene. Once on the scene, he dove into the water to determine if anyone was trapped under the boats.

?When you?re a police officer, it?s automatic,? Jarrett said. When there?s a situation, you have to do something.?

Const. Jason Katz, who, Davidson, in his letter of commendation, praised for his ?brave and unselfish? actions, also helped to retrieve the body of the victim, Samuel Pisani, 23.

Michael Christakos, 38, has been charged with impaired driving causing death, operating a motorized vehicle with a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit and failing to remain at the scene of the accident.
