Greater Sudbury Police have arrested a Sudbury man suspected of being responsible for several cases of graffiti in the city.

In a news release Thursday, police said he has been charged with eight counts of mischief.

“The male suspect has been connected to a graffiti tag left on multiple local businesses between 2014 and 2015,” the release said. “The male is a resident of

Greater Sudbury and he will not be identified as the alleged offences occurred while he was a young offender.”

The suspect was caught on video by a small business owner and later identified by police through the video footage and the graffiti tag left behind.

“The same graffiti tag, specific to the male suspect, reported by several other business owners, led to the eight counts of mischief being laid,” the release said.

An increase in the number of residents and businesses who have installed security and video surveillance systems have helped track down suspects, police said.

“This does not mean that individuals involved in tagging will stop, however, it does aid Greater Sudbury Police in the identification of suspects.”

Residents can go online to report graffiti at the police website, http://www.gsps.ca, reporting system, under the 'Mischief to Property' link.
