A Greater Sudbury Police officer facing sexual assault allegations is scheduled to make his next court appearance May 30.

Sgt. Robert Geick has been charged with sexual assault offences dating back several years following three separate investigations by the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

Geick has been suspended from his duties, with pay, since the original charge was filed against him last year.

The man was not in court Wednesday as his matters were adjourned until May 30, to be spoken to at that time.

James Cornish, director of the SIU, said in separate statements issued last summer, and in February and April of 2007, respectively, there was sufficient evidence following SIU investigations to have Geick stand trial on three separate charges of sexual assault against three different women.

Geick was originally charged last August with one count of sexual assault for an incident that allegedly took place while he was off duty in December 2004. A 34-year-old woman filed a complaint alleging sexual assault.

As a result, two SIU investigators were assigned to investigate another incident that allegedly took place in the fall of 1992.

The subsequent charges filed against Geick also allege sexual assaults against women dating back several years.

Prosecutors with the Ministry of the Attorney General will be handling the charges filed against Geick.
Because all matters relating to Geick remain before the courts and in consideration of fair trial interests, the SIU will not be making  further statements until all criminal matters are dealt with in the criminal justice system, said Cornish.

The SIU is a civilian government agency that investigates the circumstances involving police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury or death. The director of the SIU has the authority to decide whether or not charges are warranted based on the findings of an investigation.
