The Jan. 10 expiration of Darryl Cowles court order, which restricts his freedom while living in town, prompted police and the Crown attorneyÂ?s office to ask for a one-year extension of the order.

Cowles, who charged with manslaughter in 1992 for the death of Rosalynn Dupuis, 9, of Whitefish, spent nearly 10 years behind bars. Upon his return to Sudbury in February 2001, a one-year court order restricting his freedom was placed on him.

The terms of the original court order canÂ?t be lifted until a judge rules on the request for an additional one-year extension.

CowlesÂ? lawyer Glenn Sandberg says his client is not opposing the extension but rather wants clarification on some of the terms. He believes ambiguity surrounding the order contributed to the recent charge laid against his client.
