Dangerous driving charges lead to drug raid

Around 7:15 pm, officers stopped a 26-year-old male, who was accompanied by a 34-year-old male passenger, traveling southbound on Highway 69.

The rental vehicle was being driven at 168 kilometres an hour while passing against traffic in oncoming lanes.

During the arrest, police found and seized a quantity of crack cocaine, marijuana and close to $700 in cash and other drug paraphernalia.

William John Anderson of Guelph is charged with dangerous driving, impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and numerous charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

Anthony Morrassut of no fixed address in Sudbury has been charged with obstructing police, impersonation and breaching court orders.


Exposure incidents

Greater Sudbury Police are investigating two indecent acts of exposure on Sunday.

Around 10:45 am, a male was walking on Horobin Street in the area of Arnley Street when he exposed himself and made a rude sexual comment to a woman. He was last seen in the area of Whittaker and Douglas streets.

He is described as 30 to 40 years of age, with dark skin, possibly Native, approximately five-foot-ten to six-feet tall with a slim build weighing around 160 to 180 pounds. He was wearing sunglasses, a plaid shirt that was black and grey in colour and dark fitted jeans that were black and running shoes.

Around 1:10 in the afternoon, a male approached a female, who was sitting in her car in front of the YMCA on Durham Street. The male exposed himself and completed an indecent act towards her vehicle.

The man is described as approximately 50 years of ago, with salt and pepper hair with a short crew-cut style. He was wearing wire glasses with thin frames, a short sleeve shirt with vertical green, white and bluish stripes and blue pants, possibly jeans.

Garage fire

On Saturday in the early morning hours, Greater Sudbury Fire Department personnel responded to a garage fire on Camelot Drive in Minnow Lake.

A neighbour was awakened by the garage alarm and called 911.

The fire was quickly extinguised and the two residences on either side of the garage did not suffer any damage. The garage and contents, including a vehicle, sustained approximately $50,000 in damage.

The origin of the fire is suspicious and Ontario Fire Marshal investigators and Greater Sudbury Police are continuing their investigation.

Vicious assault

On Canada Day just after noon, a 19-year-old male was viciously assaulted by two unknown male parties while walking along a footpath to Junction Creek between Kingsmount Avenue and Regent Street.

The suspects fled the area after removing an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim.

The victim was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Centre for treatment.
