Greater Sudbury Police have placed a man in custody following a high-risk apprehension on Cedar Street early Friday morning.

Sudbury police were notified of an incident that occurred shortly before 8 pm Thursday evening in Timmins where the driver of a vehicle robbed his passenger of personal belongings at gunpoint. The victim and the driver were acquaintances, travelling from British Columbia through Ontario.

Police also received information indicating the possible arrival of the suspect vehicle in Sudbury.

The vehicle was located on Cedar Street early Friday morning. Police then used the Lions Eye in the Sky video surveillance system to monitor the parked vehicle.

Officers were deployed to await the return of the suspect.

Said Asraf, 25, was arrested shortly after 9 am and placed in custody by the Greater Sudbury Police Service Tactical Unit.

Charges are pending following further investigation by the Timmins Police Service and the Greater Sudbury Police Services.
