A man is facing impaired driving charges after rear-ending a pickup truck in the Hanmer area Feb. 5 around 9:15 p.m.

The man, who was driving a Saturn, was travelling northbound on Municipal Road 80 between Centennial Drive and Frost Street in the Hanmer area, when he ran into the back of a Ford Explorer.

When police arrived on the scene, the driver of the Saturn refused to provide a breath sample, and was arrested and charged with that offence, as well as impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Officers also found an open bottle of beer in the cup holder beside the driver.

The man is scheduled to appear in court March 24 to answer to the charges.

It should be noted that this accident occurred in the same location where three area youths were tragically killed last year, a police press release stated. The Greater Sudbury Police Service reminds the public that RIDE checks will continue throughout 2010. “Impaired driving will not be tolerated and in some instances can result in tragic consequences.”
