Drug bust in Wiikwemkoong nets drug charges for two people

A Toronto man is one of the accused, and is also facing charges for violating COVID-19 restrictions

A 30-year-old person from the Manitoulin Island community of Wiikwemkoong faces drug charges after Wikwemikong Tribal Police and Ontario Provincial Police officers executed a search warrant at a home in the community on Feb. 4.

Officers seized more than 30 grams of a white powdered substance believed to be cocaine. Police also seized a sum of Canadian currency as proceeds of crime.

A 22-year-old man from Toronto also faces drug charges, as well as offences related to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) for violating regulations that relate to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Both suspects are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, and possession of property obtained by crime.
