Dump truck rear-ends school bus

The driver of a small school bus and the four children on board were taken to hospital as a precaution Oct. 26 after the bus was rear-ended by a dump truck on Highway 17 East near the Garson-Coniston Road at around 8 a.m.

The driver of a small school bus and the four children on board were taken to hospital as a precaution Oct. 26 after the bus was rear-ended by a dump truck on Highway 17 East near the Garson-Coniston Road at around 8 a.m.

Two of the children and the driver were treated for minor injuries as a result of the incident. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The bus was stopped at a railway crossing, as per the legislation, when it was rear-ended by the truck, which was travelling at a slow rate of speed.

The truck driver has been charged by the Ontario Provincial Police with following too close. As a result of a Ministry of Transportation inspect, he was charged with failing to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly.
