The Red Deer Lake Fire Department, Station 25, in Wahnapitae is steaming mad about a theft from their equipment shed last month.

The stolen equipment was purchased by the volunteer fire department using money raised by the community at
various fundraising events.

Captain Rick Hogue reported the theft to Sudbury Regional Police, so far the crime remains unsolved and the property hasn?t been recovered.

The stolen property includes a chainsaw, 5,000-watt Coleman generator, charger pack, set of two-way fire station radios, gas, and petty cash.

Without these items, the fire department can?t respond appropriately to potentially dangerous fire situations in the area.

Without the generator, for example, they can?t fight fires at night because they won?t have lights and without the chainsaw, it makes it difficult to deal with forest fires or bush fires.

?These are tools we need,? Hogue says. ?I hope they get caught.?

Anyone with information about this crime can call Sudbury Regional Police at 675-9171 or Rick Hogue at 694-5174.
