Greater Sudbury firefighters will be awarded 25-year Long Service Medals and 30, 35 and 40 year Service Bars, during an investiture hosted by the Office of the Fire Marshal Aug. 24.
Long Service Medals are awarded by the Ontario Ministry of Public Safety and Security to citizens who have completed at least 25 years of career or volunteer fire service. Service Bars are awarded to those who have completed 30, 35 and 40 years of career or volunteer fire service.
"The duties of a firefighter are far from ordinary. It takes special people to remain strong in the face of danger, to remain focused in a constantly changing environment, and to remain committed to the overall good of the community," said Mayor David Courtemanche in a written statement.
The firefighters will each receive a medal or service bar and a citation. Recipients from Greater Sudbury Fire Services are:
