As a result of a two-day prostitution blitz by Greater Sudbury Police in the downtown core, 10 men and four women have been charged and arrested.

All 14 have been charged with communication for the purposes of engaging in prostitution. The prostitution blitz took place on two separate days at the end of November and beginning of December.

In conjunction with periodic sweeps of the downtown, police are also bringing the DISC (Deter and Identify Sex Trade Consumers) program back to life in an attempt to cut the amount of prostitution on city streets.

Police will stop and speak with the occupants of motor vehicles that are identified as frequenting areas where prostitution is prevalent, or those who stop and talk or pick up prostitutes.

The DISC program was introduced locally in 1998 and has had success in many Canadian cities.
