Greater Sudbury Police spotchecks set up Friday night resulted in three driver's licence suspensions, one impaired driving charge and one charge for refusing to provide a breath sample for a roadside test.
Police set up at Notre Dame Avenue and Elm Street, stopping 336 drivers under the Remove Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) program, which targets areas of the city with a history of impaired driving charges and complaints.
Also on Friday, nine people were charged with Highway Traffic Act infractions, such as not wearing a seatbelt. Five drivers were administered roadside screening tests. Two were issued 90-day driving suspensions, while one received a three-day driving ban.
In addition to RIDE, Sudburians are encouraged to support Operation Lookout, a Canada-wide program that reminds the public and businesses to call 911 if they suspect some of being an impaired driver.
