The GSP traffic management unit has received a number of complaints from local school bus lines in regards to buses being obstructed by portable basketball nets left on city streets.

The nets make it difficult for buses and other large vehicles to navigate the road while being mindful of traffic, children and others on the street. Police are asking parents to remind their kids to remove the nets from the roadway.

Rash of robberies

Following a series of convenience store robberies during the past two months, police are reminding store owners of ways to keep their businesses safe.

- Store employees should get out from behind the counter when there are no customers in the store.

- Keep windows near the counter clear of obstructions such as advertisements and posters. The counter should be visible from the outside.

- Take note of people who seem to be loitering.

- Greet everyone that comes into the store.

- Limit the amount of money in the cash register by using the "drop safe" as much as possible.

- Existing security systems should be functional and maintained regularly.

Other robbery prevention tips are available by calling the GSP crime prevention branch at 675-9171, ext. 2102 or 2103.
