Most paint-ball, pellet and BB guns, which can be legitimately purchased in stores, look more and more like real firearms.  Though they can be bought legally, these types of “weapons”, which can cause damage and serious injuries, must only be used in a controlled environment and should be carried in a safe manner.

The Criminal Code of Canada does apply in situations where someone may be carrying this type of weapon concealed on their person, or if an individual points and / or fires a paint-ball, pellet or BB gun at a person or property.  Also, if this type of weapon is used in a criminal act, it then meets the definition of a firearm under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Parents should ensure that their children only carry and use paint-ball, pellet and BB guns in an environment that is controlled, guarded and without risk to people, animals and property.

No one should be in possession of this type of weapon when at school, in malls or on buses, or in any other public place.
