The investigation is continuing into the cause of an explosion that gutted a Minnow Lake home early Sunday morning.

The explosion and subsequent fire occurred at a residence at 2019 Bancroft Dr. The blast and fire gutted the home and caused in excess of $100,000 in damage.

The force of the explosion blew glass from windows from the home across the street.

No one was home at the time and no one else was injured as a result of the blast and explosion.

The explosion and incident is being investigated by the Greater Sudbury Police Service and Ontario Fire Marshal's office.

The residence had a natural gas water heater and furnace and natural gas fireplace, but it's not known yet if a gas leak was the cause of the blast.

Neighbours report that a mother and two children had just moved into the home and they arrived on the scene several hours after the blast had taken place.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes of the explosion that took place around 1:40 am Sunday and had the blaze under control quickly.

Deputy fire chief Marc Leduc says firefighters from three local stations responded after getting an emergency call and once they arrived on the scene, the building was gutted by fire.
