Update: One lane re-opened on Hwy. 144 after morning collision

OPP asking motorists to be patient as traffic is still slow going in the area

Updated: May 22 at 2:20 p.m.

One lane of traffic is now open on Highway 144, following a collision involving a tractor-trailer and a train this morning.

Traffic is being allowed through, alternating between northbound and southbound lanes.

Motorists are being asked to be patient as OPP officers allow traffic flow to pass through the area.

Original story:

Highway 144 is closed near Levack due to a collision between a tractor-trailer and a train, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor injuries.

The boxcars were empty, but the collision derailed the train and it is blocking the highway.

The OPP said CP Rail hopes to have the road cleared up by 2 p.m.

There is no detour, so motorists should expect a long wait.
