If you're going to transport illegal drugs, make sure your vehicle is tip-top

Equipment violation leads to arrest of Sudbury man in Hearst. Driver and passenger of vehicle both face numerous charges

On Aug. 31, at approximately 1:15 a.m., members of the James Bay Detachments of the OPP report stopping a vehicle for an equipment violation on Front Street in the Town of Hearst.

Police investigation revealed that the passenger was wanted on a bench warrant and was subsequently arrested. 

Police have seized suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone as well as imitation weapons, drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency, with a combined estimated street value of $10,000. 

The OPP Community Street Crime Unit and the Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit subsequently assisted with this investigation.

A 35-year-old man from Hearst has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Oxycodone
  • Two counts of Possession of Imitation Weapon
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The passenger of the vehicle was released on a recognizance of bail and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst, on Oct. 16, to answer to the charges.
 
The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old man from Sudbury was also arrested and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Oxycodone
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

 He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst on Oct. 2 to answer to the charges.
