The Justice Over Everything: Making Appropriate Choices (JoeMac) committee has learned one of three demands made to Canada?s solicitor general earlier this year will be met.

In a letter, Lawrence MacAuley committed to issuing a written directive to federal corrections and parole officials stating there is to be no quota system on releasing offenders under community supervision.

?Now we?re asking him for a copy of the letter,? said JoeMac spokesperson and Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci.

MacAuley has also advised the committee its remaining two demands are being reviewed; the return of Sudbury Regional Police Const. Joe MacDonald?s killers to maximum security and an external review of Correctional Services Canada in light of irrefutable evidence that prisoners have, as a matter of routine, been cascaded to lower security settings and ultimately freedom, not based on individual risk assessments but on meeting numerical targets.

?He didn?t say yes, but he didn?t say no, ? said Bartolucci.

?We?re pleased with the progress that we?ve made but, you know, we would have wished there would have been more.?
