A 42-year-old Val-Caron man is currently in Greater Sudbury Police custody and has been charged with attempted fraud and fraud under $5,000.
Police say the accused was working under the name Child Cyber Search, a organization that does not exist. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Police are reminding residents to verify with the charity before contributing unless a campaign is well known and advertised.
