A local man who went on a three-week crime spree in March and April in Capreol will find out in late January whether or not heÂ?s going to jail.

Gilbert Charette pleaded guilty last week to being involved in three break, enter and thefts in Capreol, being in possession of two stolen late model cars and attempting to steal another car.

Court heard Charette, 23, had no previous criminal record until his crime spree started the week of March 20 and ended with his arrest April 12 when he was caught trying to steal a vehicle.

Once under arrest, Charette admitted his involvement in the three separate break and enters and possession of two stolen motor vehicles.

Justice William Fitzgerald ordered a pre-sentence report and will impose sentence on Charette when he returns to court January 22 early next year.

Assistant Crown attorney Fran Howe told the court Charette, an adult accomplice and young offender broke into a Capreol home between March 20 and 25 by kicking in a door, which caused $200 damage, and helped steal $7,500 in stereo equipment, electronics, jewelry and tools.

Charette and the same male accomplice broke into a second Capreol home between March 22-24, again kicked in a door causing $500 damage and proceeded to steal $1,000 in goods. They also stole the keys to a late model Nissan car.

On March 28, the Nissan was stolen from a driveway in Capreol. The vehicle was recovered, but there was damage inside and to the exterior, said Howe.

Charette and his accomplice broke into a third Capreol home on March 23 or 24, forced open a door and stole liquor, electronics equipment and a small amount of cash totaling $2,000, said Howe.

Charette and his accomplice were caught April 12 attempting to steal a late model truck, hours after another car was reported stolen. There was $1,000 in damage to the truckÂ?s ignition mechanism.

Charette and his buddy were caught when neighbours phoned police. Charette immediately admitted his involvement in the previous criminal acts when questioned by police, said defence counsel Charles Conroy.

Charette remains free on bail pending completion of the pre-sentence report and his sentencing hearing on Jan. 22.
