A man and a woman are facing drug-related charges after a drug bust in the Municipality of West Nipissing March 20.

According to a press release from the OPP, the police service's Community Street Crime Unit executed the search with the assistance of Sudbury and Warren OPP detachment members and the West Nipissing Police.

Officers seized drugs suspected to be methamphetamine and hydromorphone as well as $435 of Canadian currency.

A 39-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both from West Nipissing, were both charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); 
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – hydromorphone contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA; 
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA; and 
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - hydromorphone contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA

The man was also charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime - Under $5000 contrary to section 355(b) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The 38-year-old man was held pending a bail hearing in North Bay March 20. He remains in custody, and his next court appearance was scheduled for March 28.

The woman was released from custody on a promise to appear in court in Sturgeon Falls May 2.
