A 21-year-old Sudbury man was arrested after he was denied a ride from Operation Red Nose but still got behind the wheel.

Because the Operation Red Nose volunteers drive a client's vehicle to the destination, they have to ensure the proper registration and insurance documents are valid.

According to police, when it was realized the man's insurance papers had expired, he was told by volunteers he couldn't be driven home and would have to phone a friend, a taxi or the police.

The man refused and after a few minutes, drove away. Police had already been contacted and were successful in stopping him. He has been charged with impaired driving.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service reminds drivers that there are options available and driving under the influence is not one of them.
