A man’s attempt to flee police on a side-by-side in Webbwood on Christmas Day didn’t go so well and ended in his arrest.
At 9 p.m. on Dec. 25, officers with the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police detachment were investigating an abandoned vehicle on Young Street in Webbwood when they spotted a person on a side-by-side travelling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop for a stop sign.
“Police attempted to stop the vehicle (but) the driver refused to stop for police, colliding with the front end of a police vehicle, causing damage and fleeing the scene,” the OPP report. “The driver was later located and arrested.”
The 26-year-old was charged with:
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Flight from Peace Officer contrary to section 320.17 CC
- Drive Motor Vehicle - No Licence contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
- Fail to Remain contrary to section 200(1)(a) HTA
- Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt contrary to section 172(1) HTA
- Disobey Stop Sign - Fail to Stop contrary to section 136(1)(a) HTA
The person is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Jan. 16.
