A man’s attempt to flee police on a side-by-side in Webbwood on Christmas Day didn’t go so well and ended in his arrest.

At 9 p.m. on Dec. 25, officers with the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police detachment were investigating an abandoned vehicle on Young Street in Webbwood when they spotted a person on a side-by-side travelling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop for a stop sign.

“Police attempted to stop the vehicle (but) the driver refused to stop for police, colliding with the front end of a police vehicle, causing damage and fleeing the scene,” the OPP report. “The driver was later located and arrested.”

The 26-year-old was charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt contrary to section 172(1) HTA
  • Disobey Stop Sign - Fail to Stop contrary to section 136(1)(a) HTA

The person is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Jan. 16.
