A Greater Sudbury man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to strangle his girlfriend Wednesday evening.

Members of Greater Sudbury Police were dispatched to a Douglas St. residence around 7:45 pm on Feb. 21, in regards to an assault.

The investigation has revealed the victim and accused were involved in a brief relationship.

It is alleged the accused, a 21-year-old man, attended the home of the victim after being advised that she was ending the relationship.

The 21-year old female victim was assaulted and choked, say police. The beating ended when a neighbour knocked on the door of the residence.

The victim escaped and was taken to hospital by ambulance, where she was treated for her injuries and later released. The accused left the home and was arrested a short distance away.

The accused faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, assault, breach of probation, mischief under $5,000 and obstructing a police officer.

The accused had a bail hearing at the Sudbury courthouse Friday.
