Attempted murder charge laid in overnight Flour Mill shooting

Charges including attempted murder have been laid in an overnight shooting in the Flour Mill neighbourhood of Greater Sudbury that resulted in serious injuries to one man.

Around 12:15 a.m. May 24, officers were dispatched to Agnes Street in Greater Sudbury in relation to a weapons complaint. 

Information provided to police was that a community member heard what were believed to be gunshots and could see an individual lying on the ground. 

While officers were on route, a description of the individuals believed to be involved in the incident was provided.

Upon arrival, officers located a 26-year-old man who had sustained what is believed to be a gunshot wound. The individual was transported to hospital by Greater Sudbury Paramedics with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Additional officers quickly located two people matching the descriptions of the individuals believed to be involved in the incident. The two individuals were placed under arrest. 

A search revealed a loaded handgun, a knife, more than 30 grams of Fentanyl and more than $560 in cash on one of the parties.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with:

• Attempt to commit murder with a firearm

• Carrying a concealed weapon

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

• Possession of a prohibited device

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm

• Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition

• Possession of a schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking

A 40-year-old woman has been charged with:

• Carrying a concealed weapon

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

• Possession of a prohibited device

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm

• Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition

Both individuals are being held in police custody to attend bail court today to answer to the charges.

Officers will be conducting an evidentiary ground search in the area of Agnes Street this afternoon in relation to this matter. Community members are asked to avoid the area while officers are on scene.

Detectives will also be canvassing the area for video surveillance footage.

Greater Sudbury Police said there was an overnight shooting on Agnes Street in the Flour Mill neighbourhood of Greater Sudbury that resulted in one man receiving non life-threatening injuries.

According to a social media post from police, officers responded to the shooting shortly after midnight May 24. Two people were arrested for the shooting, and a handgun was seized.

Police found one man suffering from non life-threatening gunshot wounds.

There is no longer any threat to public safety, police said.
