It?s the end of the road for a Val Caron man after he received a lifetime ban on driving following numerous drunk driving and other driving-related offenses.

The latest incident occurred April 12 when Robert Young, 58, was caught driving while prohibited, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. He didn?t have car insurance at the time accident.

Young wasn?t charged with impaired driving at the time because he fled the scene before police arrived, said Crown attorney Diana Fuller in the Ontario Court of Justice.

?We know he was drinking,? she said. ?We know from his record that he has continuously had no respect for the rules of the road.?

Furthermore, she added, Young continues to drive while his licence is suspended because ?he know he can get away with it.?

She asked Justice Ronald Boivin to sentence Young to an additional six months in jail on top of the three he has spent in jail since his arrest.

Young?s lawyer, Stephanie Baker, said her client has battled problems with alcohol for many years, especially after the death of his wife.

Justice Ronald Boivin said there?s no doubt Young ?excessively abused? his privilege to drive.

He sentenced the 58-year-old to another month in jail on top of the three he has already served and imposed a ?lifetime driving prohibition? against Young.
