The man shot by a Greater Sudbury Police officer last Thursday is recovering from a chest wound in hospital in Sudbury. Rose Bliss, communications manager with the province?s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), says Jamie Kinnunen, 42, does not have life-threatening injuries but remains in hospital following an incident at a Norma Street residence in the city?s South End.

Six investigators from the SIU spent much of the holiday weekend interviewing officers and talking to other witnesses and the investigation continues.

Last Thursday around 10:38 pm Greater Sudbury Police Service received a call to attend a Norma Street residence.

Uniform officers responded to the call and while dealing with the situation a male party was shot in the chest area.

The SIU will not be revealing the identity of the officer who discharged his firearm unless a criminal charge is laid.
