A jury of eight men and four women has aquitted two local men of sexual assault causing bodily harm, but found them guilty of attempting to try and smuggle drugs by having a woman hide them inside her body.

Brad Burleigh, 36, and Raymond Paquette, 25, have been in custody since being arrested in January of 2005. A date for their sentencing hearing will be set this Friday.

The 26-year-old complainant had testified she had agreed to a disturbing plan to try and smuggle drugs into the Sudbury District Jail by placing packages filled with drugs inside her body.

She said she changed her mind after suffering excruciating pain once the drugs were inserted, but Paquette insisted she go ahead with the plan.

Burleigh accompanied her to police headquarters, where she was to try and have her bail revoked, so she could be placed back into custody, she said.

When Burleigh was out of sight, she broke down and told a police officer about the drugs being inside her and the drugs were removed, she testified.

Justice Patricia Hennessy of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice oversaw the trial and will be responsible for sentencing Burleigh and Paquette on the drug convictions.
