Update: OPP identify three people killed in Hwy. 17 collision

Highway 17 has been reopened

The OPP have identified the victims of Monday's crash.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, Jacques Dandenault, 75, and the passenger, Pierrette Dandenault, 73, both from Kapuskasing, were pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the eastbound vehicle, Tyler Carter, 18, from Walden, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 44 year-old passenger was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
 
Highway 17 was closed in both directions for approximately six hours.

"The OPP would like to thank the public for their patience during this time," the news release said. "OPP traffic collision investigators are continuing their investigation."

OPP reopened the highway around 8 p.m.

Manitoulin OPP are investigating a triple fatal collision that occurred on Highway 17, approximately 10 km west of Nairn Centre on June 3.

Three people died as a result of the collision and one other person sustained non-life threatening injuries.

There is no detour available in the area at this time and the OPP are asking that motorists be patient while traffic investigators analyze the scene.

A crash involving an unknown number of vehicles has closed a stretch of Highway 17 near Nairn Centre.

The Ontario Provincial Police has not released any details yet about the collision, other than motorists should expect delays.
