New Year's RIDE results

On Dec. 31, officers of the traffic management unit again conducted RIDE checks throughout the City of Greater Sudbury. Uniform officers also stopped individuals suspected of drinking and driving.

On Dec. 31, officers of the traffic management unit again conducted RIDE checks throughout the City of Greater Sudbury.  Uniform officers also stopped individuals suspected of drinking and driving.  The following are the efforts of those checks:

- 623 vehicles were checked
- 21 people were suspected of drinking in driving and were given roadside tests resulting in
- Two people being suspended for 12 hours
- Five people were charged with impaired driving or blowing over the legal limit resulting in 90 day suspensions of their licences and vehicles being towed.

On Dec. 31, at approximately 9:33 am, a vehicle was clocked at 115 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.  The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver attempted to switch positions in the vehicle.  A 19-year-old male who was the driver who switched positions with his passenger was arrested and charged with the following offences:

- Obstructing police (Criminal Code)
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Breach of probation
- Speeding 115 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone
- Driving a motor vehicle without a licence

On Jan. 1, at approximately 9:20 pm, officers were conducting radar on the Kingsway Blvd. when an officer observed a vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.  The vehicle was subsequently stopped and a 38-year-old female was charged with the following:

- Driving motor vehicle while performing a stunt – 115 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone

The driver was suspended on the spot for seven days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days as well.
