Update - The driver of the motorcycle has now been identified as Detective Sergeant Paul Clairmont of the Sudbury Unit of the OPP Investigation and Enforcement Bureau assigned to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

Clairmont was off-duty and operating his personal motorcycle eastbound on Highway 17 at the time of the collision.

The investigation into the collision is continuing with the assistance of the Northeast Regional Forensic Unit and a technical traffic collision investigator and re-constructionist.

An off-duty OPP officer driving a motorcycle was killed Sunday afternoon after a collision with a compact car on Highway 17, about three kilometres west of Nairn Centre.

The highway was closed for nearly 11 hours between Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning.

The two occupants of the car were taken to Espanola General Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

The names of those involved in the collision have not yet been released. The investigation is still in its infancy and few details are available at this time.
