Update: First responders have left scene of barricaded person in Wahnapitae

Heavy police presence in the area of Beverley Street was related to barricaded person, situation seems to have resolved

Updated April 10 at 2:52 p.m.: Greater Sudbury Police and an ambulance have left the scene of a barricaded person in Wahnapitae, a little less than two hours after notifying the public of the incident.

Sudbury.com has a reporter at the scene. They report that seven police vehicles and tactical officers respoded to the incident at a home on Beverley Street in Wahnapitae, east of Sudbury. The reporter said an ambulance also responded.

Officers asked our reporter not to shoot photos as the person involved was removed from the home, telling the reporter the person was a young offender. GSPS has not yet released additional details on the incident. 

Just after 2:30 p.m., all first responders had cleared the scene. This story will be updated as new information becomes available.

Residents of Wahnapitae will notice a heavy police presence in the area of Beverley Street this afternoon as Greater Sudbury Police is responding to reports of a barricaded person.

GSPS tweeted about the incident just after 1 p.m.

Police ask the public to avoid the area. The public is also asked not to livestream officers or post photos showing officers on scene “as this poses a safety risk.”
