Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in North Bay reports that officers responded to a serious crash on Highway 17 in Bonfield Township Saturday night around seven oclock along with Bonfield Township fire and rescue and the district ambulance service.

Police said the initial investigation revealed that an east-bound vehicle and a west-bound dump truck collided head on. The dump truck then lost control veering into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle. OPP did not provide specific descriptions of the other vehicles.

OPP reports the driver of the initial vehicle, Blake Keown, age 20, from Powassan, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Three people from the second vehicle were brought to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured, said police.

The investigation is continuing into the cause of the collision with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner and OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI). A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place at a later date.

Highway 17 was closed for investigation until approximately 3:15 a.m. Sunday, said police.
