OPP arrest two Sudbury-area men for stunt driving

Separate incidents occurred on Oct. 15 and Oct. 19 on Highway 17

Ontario Provincial Police arrested a charged a Chelmsford man with stunt driving on Highway 17 in the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers on Oct. 15.

Police charged the 45-year-old man with race a motor vehicle and speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on Dec. 8, 2016.

Every person convicted of race a motor vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, in addition to his or her driver’s licence being suspended.

In a separate incident on Oct. 19, OPP officers charged a 39-year-old Sudbury man race a motor vehicle while he was travelling on Highway 17.

The man’s driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on Dec. 5, 2016.
