The West Nipissing OPP detachment handed out more than 100 speeding tickets during Canada Road Safety Week between May 12 - 18.
The annual awareness campaign is designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures.
The campaign resulted in the following results for the Nipissing West OPP Detachment cluster:
- Impaired by Drug charges: 1
- Speeding charges: 109
- Seatbelt charges: 3
- Fail to Yield charges: 2
- Stunt Driving charges: 2
The campaign results for the Sudbury OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team are as follows:
- Speeding charges: 28
- Stunt Driving charges: 2

"While the OPP and its traffic safety partners remain committed to saving lives on our roads, drivers should adopt safe, defensive driving behaviours, which go a long way in reducing the number of preventable deaths," said the OPP in a news release.
Passengers and the public in general can help by adopting an intolerance of these behaviours and recognizing the serious risk they pose to the road users.
