Members of the Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a snow machine collision which occurred Jan. 3 in Grigg Township, north of Capreol.

The driver of the snow machine, a 73-year-old Hanmer man was killed in the collision. The passenger sustained minor injuries. Names are not being released at this time pending further notification of next of kin.

Police received the report approximately 2:30 pm  Thursday and completed their on-scene investigation.

The preliminary investigation revealed  a snow machine was being operated northbound on Portelance Rd. The snow machine had two occupants and was pulling a snowmobile trailer.  There was heavy snow at the time with almost white-out conditions. The snow machine failed to negotiate a curve causing it to roll onto its side and down an embankment.

The investigation is continuing and a post mortem will be conducted today. Speed was not an issue in this collision, however weather was a contributing factor.
