A Chelmsford man has been charged with careless driving after hitting an Ontario Provincial Police motorcycle officer from behind near the intersection of Highway 144 and municipal road 35 Wednesday afternoon.

Camille Morneau, driving a 1994 Chrysler Intrepid, rear-ended Const. Dan Rocheleau in the southbound passing lane at about 2:30 pm.

The officer went into the air, caught the handlebars with his ankles, and managed to regain control, thanks in part to a training course motorcycle officers receive.

?We go through an intensive three-week training program for the motorcycle,? Rocheleau said.
Rocheleau was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph?s Health Centre where he was treated, examined and released. He said he is stiff today, but X-rays showed there is only muscle damage in his neck and back. He was on his way to hot tub therapy Thursday morning.

The accident occurred, he said, more or less in from of the Place Bonaventure mall.
