OPP name victim of fatal Hwy. 17 crash

The Ontario Provincial Police have released the name of the victim in a fatal three-vehicle crash on Highway 17 late last night. Dean Maxwell Junior Hancock, 18, was killed in the collision.

The Ontario Provincial Police have released the name of the victim in a fatal three-vehicle crash on Highway 17 late last night.

Dean Maxwell Junior Hancock, 18, was killed in the collision.

The 39-year-old driver of the westbound pickup truck has been released from hospital. He is charged with breach of conditions from an unrelated incident.

One person is dead following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 17 on Aug. 21, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

The crash happened on the Highway 17 Southwest bypass between Southview Drive and Fielding Road at about 11:30 p.m.


Preliminary investigation revealed a westbound pickup truck collided head on with two eastbound vehicles, a car and a pick-up truck. The male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the westbound truck suffered non-life threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

The male driver of the eastbound truck was transported to hospital by ambulance where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

On August 21, 2014 at 11:25 p.m., officers from the Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a three vehicle collision on Highway 17 Southwest by-pass, between Southview Drive and Fielding Rd. in the City of Greater Sudbury.

Preliminary investigation revealed a westbound pick-up truck collided head-on with two eastbound vehicles (a car and a pick-up truck).

The male driver, from Sudbury, of the eastbound car was pronounced dead at the scene.

An OPP collision reconstructionist and an OPP technical traffic collision investigator are assisting with the investigation. Highway 17 was closed, but is now open.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
