OPP RIDE stop leads to charges for Sudbury man

On Nov. 25 members of the Sudbury OPP established a RIDE initiative on Highway 17, in Sudbury.

At around 12:35 a.m. officers checked a vehicle occupied by a man who stopped at the RIDE program. Investigation revealed that the driver had been drinking.

The driver, a 39-year-old man from Sudbury, was arrested and charged with driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.

The accused driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on Dec. 14 to answer to his charges.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
