Ornament thieves in Elliot Lake bragged about their misdeed and it led to their arrest, says OPP

An Elliot Lake duo have been charged after they bragged about stealing Christmas ornaments from the front lawn of a home on Capillo Road, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

An Elliot Lake duo have been charged after they bragged about stealing Christmas ornaments from the front lawn of a home on Taylor Boulevard, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

On Nov. 26, officers arrested and charged the pair five days after a resident notified police that numerous ornaments had been stolen from their front lawn sometime overnight on Nov. 21.

Police reached out to the community through social media, asking for witnesses and any information on the alleged theft. Witnesses came forward and told police two people were bragging about stealing the ornaments, and that the ornaments were inside their home.

A search warrant was executed at their home on Capillo Road. The pair were arrested. In addition, officers learned the pair were breaching numerous release conditions from prior charges.

A 41-year-old man is charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, two counts of failure to comply with a probation order, and three counts of failure to comply with a release Order - other than to attend court.

A 28-year-old woman is charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, two counts of failure to comply with a probation order, and failure to comply with a release order - other than to attend court.
