Two fires which occurred overnight have been deemed to be suspicious, and are under investigation by Greater Sudbury Police and the Greater Sudbury Fire Services.

Right now, both are deemed suspicious because there are no obvious reasons why either fire would ignite on their own,” said Greater Sudbury Police spokesperson Bert Lapalme.

Lapalme said the fire marshal's office has been notified, although he's not sure whether they will be investigating.

Fire crews responded to a shed fire at 144 Albany Street Oct. 25 at 11:30 p.m. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department.

The shed was destroyed, as well as the contents, with damage estimated at $2,500. Telephone and cable lines in the area were damaged as a result of the flames.

The fire department then responded to a vehicle fire at 423 Montague Street at 2 a.m. Oct. 26.

When crews arrived on scene, an older pickup truck, which had been put on jacks by its owners, was fully engulfed, and an adjacent dwelling beside the truck started to catch on fire as well.

The vehicle was totally destroyed, and the dwelling sustained minor fire and smoke damage. The estimated damage from this incident is $3,000.

No injuries were sustained as a result of either incident.
