Passenger train nearly derails near Burwash

None of the 250 passengers were hurt Saturday afternoon when a CN train was almost derailed by a piece of steel laid across the tracks. The accident occured in Porlock, south of Burwash. The passengers were taken to Capreol to await a rescue train.

Ontario Provincial Police say two men in dark clothing were seen near the train at the time of the accident and are asking the public for help in identifying them

The operator, according to police, was able to prevent any injuries by bringing the train to a safe stop.

Two fuel cars, however, ruptured upon impact with the steel and spilled about 1,800 gallons of diesel fuel. The tracks were also damaged.
